It’s that time of year again – end-of-year recap time, that is.
We took a look at all orders from 2014 to determine the trendiest foods of the year, as well as the foods that moved to the proverbial back burner. And, according to our year-over-year order data, sharable dishes – including Skillet Cookies, Poutine, and Brussels Sprouts – saw some of the biggest takeout order spikes in 2014.

- Skillet Chocolate Chip Cookie: +323%
- Whiting Fish: +199%
- Poutine: +189%
- Jumbo Soft Pretzels: +186%
- Brussels Sprouts: +185%
- Classic Sirloin: +180%
- Bacon Ranch Quesadillas: +168%
- Shoyu Ramen: +167%
- Cornbread: +160%
- Karaage Chicken: +154%
In a move that’s making some older generations do a double-take, Whiting Fish jumped 199% in popularity this year, and Brussels Sprouts enjoyed a bump of 185%. As for some less-surprising 2014 food trends, ramen seemed to be on everyone’s lips this year: Shoyu Ramen saw a bump of 167%, and Wheat-less (gluten-free) Ramen orders were 363% more popular this year than last.
And it looks like 2014 finally put the cupcake trend to rest – orders for Chocolate Cupcakes were down 67% compared to last year, and Mini Vanilla Cupcakes dropped by 83%. In addition to declining cupcake orders, takeout order data shows other foods “on the out” in 2014.
