Whether I’m at home ordering dinner or out with friends at a swanky restaurant, when the food arrives to the table, my initial reaction isn’t to just dive in fork first. To the annoyance of my hungry friends, our dining engagements tend to turn into impromptu photo shoots. With my digital camera in hand wherever I go, I’m always primping my meals for Flickr page infamy.
To my delight, I recently discovered I’m not alone in my OCD foodie habits! Last Friday, Joelen Tan — winner of RedEye’s Virtual Kitchen Stadium — invited me and my fellow chef-testants to her home for a post-cook-off celebratory potluck. Before we all started mauin’ down on the chef Rick Bayless inspired spread, each of us at the table quickly pulled out our cameras to snap pics of all the dishes. It’s always refreshing to meet other food nerds who share in the same quirky habits and interests. With a sweet view of the Lollapalooza festivities from Joelen’s pimpin’ high-rise, we had an incredible night filled with amazing food and conversation.
