Restaurant Spotlight: Yushi in NYC
Today we’re taking a peek at Yushi in NYC! We sat down with two of Yushi’s finest, Katie Roose and Daniel Lachs, to give us an inside tour of their Midtown restaurant and give us some yummy details! They’ve introduced a fresh new product called the Yu Bowl and have some delicious things coming up for the restaurant, so check out the food photos and read all about it:
Seamless: Yushi has delicious traditional Japanese food, as well as a variety of unique healthy options. What is the overall vision for the Yushi menu?
Yushi: The vision is to create an Asian Kitchen where all the food is inspired by Asian flavors and Asian cuisines be it Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Malaysian it’s a hot bed of Asian flavors.
S: Tell us about your unique Yu-Bowl creation — What is it and where did the idea come from?
Y: Having a unique dining experience is not only a dinner time thing or for when you go to a fancy restaurant, but it can be that way for a quick lunch as well. We wanted to create something that offered people the ability to create a unique meal designed towards their flavor “wants” and “desires.” We also wanted to add something to the old Yushi format that would make Yushi more than just a grab and go sushi environment, because even if you were going to come in for sushi that is a once a week thing. With Yu-bowl you can have 3 unique experiences in the same week. One day you get a salad base, one day you get a noodle bowl, one day it’s a rice plate. You also have the ability to multiple day part business.
S: Explain the concept of “How will Yu-Bowl today?” and how your customers can customize their own unique Yu Bowls?
Y: “How will Yu-Bowl today?” shows customers that they have the opportunity to create a new yu bowl every time that they bowl. Do Yu-Bowl Veg? (vegetarian option) Do Yu-Bowl with double protein? Do Yu-Bowl Spicy? Do Yu-Bowl Noodles or Rice? There are so many ways to bowl, so many options you can customize. It is fun, it is unique and it gives people an opportunity to create a lunch that they truly desire!
S: Something that both Seamless and Yushi are passionate about is getting hungry eaters delicious and healthy food quickly and easily. Can you tell us about how Yushi delivers on that quality?
Y: Yushi delivers quickly within 15 minutes when you order a Yu-Bowl or in general. But what is amazing about the Yu-Bowl is every ingredient is freshly made in-house that morning, so our bowlers know they are ordering healthy, fresh food that gets to them super fast.
S: So, what’s next for Yushi: new locations, new menu concepts etc.?
Y: We’re opening a new flagship location on Maiden Lane in the next few weeks that will highlight an open kitchen so that the guests can see us cooking in Woks. We are also working hard in the R&D kitchen to get the Yushi Asian sandwich bar up and running. We hope that from there we can get two new locations open before 2012 is done. Wow that is a lot isn’t it!
