Some of the most popular takeout and delivery items on Seamless are savory foods. But, did you know that people also LOVE ordering dessert? With this in mind, we’re super excited to be welcoming Popbar to the Seamless crew. Popbar makes delicious, fruity, sweet pops with a great twist – toppings! We chatted with the founders of Popbar, Reuben Ben Yehdua and Daniel Yaghoubi, to get all the dish on what makes their desserts so special. Just beware, once you pop you may become a popaholic!
Seamless: These are certainly not your average popsicles! What inspired the unique creation of Popbar?
Popbar: We like to think of Popbars as a gourmet version of popsicles – in fact the word “popsicle” is not even allowed at our store! Having European backgrounds, we were inspired to create Gelato, Sorbetto, and even Yogurt on a Stick – made in our store with only natural ingredients. We use only real fruit, no preservatives or artificial coloring. And it doesn’t stop there! You can dip and top your Gelato on a Stick in a variety of premium Chocolate Dippings and Natural Toppings.
S: You have your own “Pop Dictionary.” Tell us about the ‘popLab’ and what happens behind the scenes there.
PB: popLab is where our master popologists (popbar staff) work daily to create our delicious wonders! We use our proprietary technology and recipes to produce hundreds of popbars fresh daily not just for our store but to various clients who order from us on a regular basis. We made the popLab visible to the customer as a reflection of our belief to use only natural ingredients – at Popbar what you see is what you get.
S: What’s the craziest Popbar creation a customer has ever asked for?
PB: We have popaholics (popbars regular customers) that come in almost daily. They usually have a favorite myPop combination like popGelato pistachio dipped in dark chocolate with pistachio poppings or popGelato coffee dipped in dark chocolate with coconut poppings. But the craziest combination we have had may have been what we now call ‘the nutty professor’ popGelato Hazelnut dipped in dark chocolate and white chocolate with almond, pistachio and hazelnut poppings!
S: We are thrilled Popbar is on Seamless. Are there challenges to delivering your treats? Do you have specialty packaging to make sure they arrive safely and intact?
PB: Over the past 2 years we delivered popbars in a variety of environments and situations, which made us experts in getting our frozen treats from point A to point B. Therefore, we now think Seamless is perfect for us – we love to cater the consumer at home or office with our sticks that are very convenient and easier to serve than regular frozen treats.
Our regular popbars travel in bright orange thermal bags that keep them frozen for over 1 hour in transit and fit snug in any home or office freezer. Our miniPops travel in medical grade white thermal boxes that keep them frozen up to 3hrs. We have never had a customer that has received a melted popbar. We pride ourselves in this expertise and assessing distance and time for every delivery. Seamless customers will be thrilled! Also noteworthy for our corporate customers is that consuming popbars requires no extra silverware, plates or cups, they are on a stick and are simple to serve which is why they make such a great option for dessert.
S: Popbars are a delicious summertime treat for sure! How do you make sure they are enjoyable during the wintertime?
PB: We are now in our second winter and people still love having gelato in the winter – I would say that the place of consumption changes, but the quantity stays the same. In the winter we also sell more yogurtPops which are made of real fruits and yogurt- it works well for people who are bored of eating froyo with a spoon!
This winter we also introduced a new product which revealed to be very successful: Hot Chocolate on a Stick. It comes in 3 flavors: dark, milk and white and is made with premium fine chocolate. We deliver this product wrapped to offices and homes where one can create their own hot chocolate using hot milk.
S: The flavor combinations in a Popbar are seemingly limitless. What is your ultimate popflavor + toppings combo?
PB: This is hard to answer! We usually carry in our flavor rotation 26 plus flavors and there is one (or more) for every popaholic out there. We usually advise popSorbettos, which are made of up to 80% real fruit, to the most healthy eaters and parents. Those usually sell straight up or half dipped into dark chocolate. For popaholics who want the real thing, we suggest a popGelato – depending on their mood, Banana dipped in Dark Chocolate with Hazelnuts, Coffee with White Chocolate and Almonds, or Coconut with Milk Chocolate and Coconut Shredding.
S: What’s next for Popbar? Any new locations, products, surprising flavors?
PB: We are always working on exciting new flavor introductions, new poppings and yes, there is lots of demand for more locations. We just started working on our franchising development – so look out for new Popbars opening soon!
