A food blog that’s going to tease the palate, make your belly groan and possibly scratch your head and say WTF?
The Daily Grub
is the official blog of GrubHub.com
GrubHub.com and Groupon winners. Check out the fancy gear.
After weeks of Twitter trash talking, some of Chi-town’s multi-talented startups got their chance to show off their Rock Band skillz at the first-ever Battle of the Startups. GrubHub.com and Techkaraoke-Chicago hosted the Rock Band tournament Tuesday night at Sully’s House Tap Room and Grill. The competing bands included peeps from Groupon, WeSeed, Lakeshore Branding, and yours truly, GrubHub.com.
The tournament almost didn’t take place, considering our Xbox decided to break on us just hours before the competition. I guess all those round-the- clock Rock Band practices did a number on our system. The final rankings for Battle of the Startups Rock Band: #1 - GrubHub.com - #2 Groupon - #3 - WeSeed - #4 Lakeshore Branding.
The bands all put in a valiant effort last night, but I have to admit, some looked better than they sounded. Lakeshore Branding sported many a fancy looking coiffure, which covered the span of every decade dating back to the 60s — view photos below. Lakeshore Branding won for “Best Dressed Rock Band.”

Business up front, party out back. Nice mullet Lakeshore Branding.
We want to give a special thanks to all the startups that participated and to those that just came out to watch all the mayhem. Chicago is an amazing city where smart, young companies continue to grow and flourish. GrubHub.com wouldn’t be where we are today without the support and encouragement from all the awesome startups that blazed the trail before us. While we always enjoy a nice Rock Band butt kicking, events like Battle of the Startups is more about seeing local companies come together to support each other. So, till the next tourney! Groupon, we’re still waiting on that espresso machine.
If you couldn’t make it to last nights Battle of the Startups. Check out the rocking photos below:

Groupon showing off their mad skillz.

Playing the guitar from the floor. That's talent. BTW, Groupon's lead vocalist was off the hook.

WeSeed lost a guitarist just before the gig, but Tim Jahn from Beyond the Pedway came to the rescue to fill-in.

More great hair pics from Lakeshore Branding.

I'm guessing 90's Grunge look from Lakeshore Branding.

Good pics! As for the espresso machine, I dedicate this song to you. While it’s not in the Rock Band 2 play list, we can only hope for the future (are you listening Rock Band people??)

Big thanks to Stacy and the GrubHub team for putting this on. Hopefully we provided some good laughs from our awful performances and sweet attire. Congrats to everyone who participated and thanks for the food!

Ha ha Kristi! I think I use to own a couple of the outfits way back when. For get about the espresso machine, how about Andrew come over and work GrubHub’s customer service for day : )
Brandon, thanks for coming out. I forgot to mention the matching plaid attire was a nice touch too. Like any great 80s band, you don’t have to sound good, just look the part.

Thanks for letting us compete, it was a blast. Im glad we were able to finish a song before being eliminated, lol.
Good times all around. And yes our plaid shirts were out of control.
