We tend to get quite a few emails here at Seamless HQ. And when this one arrived in our inbox, we just had to share it. Thank you to Shannon for sharing this awesome story:
A few months ago, my roommate, Anthony, had been partying with my other roommate, Dave, late on a Sunday night. Anthony told me his drunken haze, right before I went to bed, that he needed to wake up at 8am for a big 10am meeting. Pleading with me, he asked me to make sure he woke up on time. Since I woke up at 7am to go to work, I promised I would make sure Anthony wouldn’t sleep through his alarms and physically shake him awake. I think I heard the music in the living room stop around 4am.
I woke up to my buzzing alarm at 7am. Quickly, I jumped in the shower, got dressed, and was ready to leave by 7:30am when I walked down the hall and popped my head in Anthony’s door. As I screamed at him from the doorway and later actually physically shaking him, Anthony looked at me with his half open eyes and insisted in his groggy voice that he was 100% awake. BS I thought, knowing full well he would fall right back asleep as I walked out the front door.
My morning meeting ended around 8:30am and as I sat down at my desk, I called Anthony’s cell phone from work to check if he had actually woken up. Anthony always responds to his cell phone so the continual ringing was disconcerting. He was definitely going to miss his meeting. I must have called his cell 20 times before trying Dave’s – the unemployed enabling roommate – cell phone as well. Rats. No luck there either.
A variety of scenarios began rifling through my head. Could I go home to wake him? Would I get there in time? Who did I know who was free that could go over there? And that’s when it struck me. I logged online, went to Seamless, and ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese (the quickest thing I figured you could make while meeting the minimum delivery quota ha..) from the deli with the lowest quoted time. I clicked the “PROCEED TO CHECKOUT” button and patiently waited while hoping for the best. It was 9:07am.
Around 9:30am – from what I’m told – the front doorbell had rang loud enough to wake both of them up. Dave dragged himself over to the phone and picked up the door phone.
“Delivery for Shannon!” shouted the delivery man.
Dave let the guy in but was a little bewildered since I was nowhere to be found. Anthony stuck his head out of his door to find out what all the commotion had been all about in the living room.
“What time is it? ughhh….”, asked Anthony.
It was 9:35am and Anthony started racing around the apartment realizing he had such little time to make it downtown. The door closed behind Dave when he sat down at the dining room table and began to indulge in his freshly delivered breakfast.
Around 11am, I got the message from Anthony.
“best roommate ever”
Anthony made his meeting and it went over spectacularly. He owed me huge, and I owed it all to Seamless.
