Here at Seamless, we recognize that food is oftentimes beautiful, hence why we Instagram the heck out of it at practically every meal. Yet, at the end of the day, we are just amateurs. Just like Richard Nixon failed to wear makeup when he debated JFK in 1960, food without makeup doesn’t win many friends in New York media circles. Enter the folks who make food look irresistibly pretty for photo shoots… and it’s not easy.
As today’s article on “Food Fluffers” in Narratively shares, a food stylist may spend an entire day at Whole Foods seeking out the perfect subjects by “looking for oranges whose flesh had a pinkish tint and pears with smooth skin, an even golden color, and a base that was as close to spherical as possible.”
If you’re into Instagram and have food photos to share, don’t forget to use our fluffer-friendly hashtag, #seamlessfoodporn.
