In April, I attended the Illinois Technology Association’s CityLIGHTS Awards Gala. The gala is held annually to celebrate Illinois’ thriving technology ecosystem and highlight some of the advancements of the past year. Community members cast 20,000 votes for this year’s gala — record voting for the ITA awards gala. This is a great reflection of the continued growth of the Illinois technology community.
GrubHub.com was honored by the ITA with its Rising Star award, which recognizes “the company that has emerged from its start-up phase to distinguish itself.” Well, look at us. We officially get to wear the fancy pants! With all kidding aside, it was truly an honor to be presented with the award and to be among such an incredible group of nominees.
When I accepted the ITA’s Rising Star Award, I didn’t have an acceptance speech prewritten. But it was pretty clear to me who I needed to thank. GrubHub.com wouldn’t be where we are today if it weren’t for our loyal users and our amazing network of restaurants. From the first restaurant owner who took a chance on us to our most recent convert who discovered she can get a decadent chocolate cake delivered right to her doorstep, we offer a very sincere and humble “Thank You.”
Matt and I first launched GrubHub.com out of my apartment six years ago. We set out to develop a site that would make ordering food easy and more convenient for people. We couldn’t have expected to touch so many people’s lives so quickly. We are very thankful for the community that has supported our dream.
GrubHub.com’s fans are truly the best in the world. I know a lot of companies may say this, but we’re right, so they can go pound salt.
Cheers to you and Bon Appétit!
Mike Evans, GrubHub.com co-founder and COO
