SeamlessWeb’s NYC Member of the Week Profile: Andrew
Every week, we ask a different SeamlessWeb member questions about ordering food online, food in general, and other fun topics. This week we have Andrew, a Queens resident who’s awkward on the phone.
First Name: Andrew
Occupation: I’m a Programming Assistant at the Jacob Burns Film Center. I’m also a writer/comedian who’s done several video projects including my latest web series, “Date Night, Kinect Night” which can be seen on Funny or Die. I’m also the host of the We Hate Movies! podcast.
How and When Did You Discover SeamlessWeb? My wife first turned me on to the site over a year ago after she discovered it from some co-workers. Since then it’s become a way of life around our house. We don’t say things like, “Do you want Chinese for dinner?” We actually say things like, “Do you want SeamlessWeb?”
Where Do You Use SW? I use SeamlessWeb a ton at home or if I’m at a friend’s place around the city. I work in northern Westchester so there aren’t a lot of spots available up where I am…yet! (Ed: We may be able to work on that…email firstname.lastname@example.org with your favorites!)
Favorite Kind of Food: My favorite food would definitely be any kind of pub food. Give me some Buffalo wings or a hot batch of Fish ‘n Chips topped off with a cold beer and I’m golden.
Least Favorite Kind of Food: I’d say any cuisine that plays around with pickled fish. I know a lot of folks out there dig that kind of stuff, but as far as I’m concerned they can keep it.
Favorite Place(s) to Order From on SW? What I love about SW is how easily they’ve put the culinary melting pot that is my neighborhood of Astoria right at my fingertips. I love ordering Mexican from Tulcingo and Indian from Seva, while my old stand-by’s are Chinese from Golden House and gyros from BZ Grill. (Ed: Always good to have the old stand-by’s!)
Least Favorite Thing About Calling Restaurants? If there are two things I’m terrible at in life it’s making decisions and talking on the phone. Thanks to SW I don’t have to awkwardly try to explain to someone what I want off the menu. I can also sit in front of my computer and neurotically take twenty-five minutes figuring out exactly what I want for dinner.
Closest Previous Brush with Internet Fame? My closest previous brush with electronic stardom is probably the podcast I host, We Hate Movies!. The show features me and a group of my writer/comedian/film scholar friends getting together in a room and chit-chatting about terrible movies. Considering I majored in Cinema Studies in college, I feel like this sort of justifies my sky-high student loans… (Ed: Definitely. Probably moreso than my History degree justifies working at an online food ordering website!)
Favorite Celebrity Chef? Tom Colicchio, hands down. On top of being an insanely talented and successful chef, he just seems like the absolute coolest guy. In an alternate reality, Tom and I get together for beers every now and again and talk food and rock & roll.
Favorite Cartoon Growing Up? As a young kid it was probably Batman the Animated Series. Even at a young age the style of the show fascinated me. I couldn’t wrap my mind around the fact that Batman had all these computers and gadgets, but the rest of Gotham City seemed to be stuck in the 1930’s.
What Superpower Do You Wish You Had? When I was little I think I always thought it would be cool to be able to fly. Having now grown into the neurotic adult that I am, I can assure you that having that power would be terrifying. Nowadays I think it’d be cool to be able to breathe underwater. I could get used to being Aquaman — assuming I didn’t have the hook hand thing. Wow, I’ve really just implicated my nerdy self right there… (Ed: You wish may soon be a reality!)
In the Past Year, What’s the Latest You’ve Stayed Up and Why? I think the latest I’ve stayed up in the past year is probably around 5:30-6:00 am. I’m a night owl and I tend to get caught up in lots of Netflix Instant Watch after my wife goes to bed. Any device that instantly gives you all nine seasons of The X Files is trouble!
Plans for Tonight? A typical Thursday night plan for me is dinner and TV at home with my wife. If the stars align, the dinner will somehow have bacon in the recipe and I’ll be able to catch the Rangers game on TV. If not hockey, maybe some 30 Rock and Archer.
