Seamless’ Member of the Week Profile: Benjy
Every week, we ask a different Seamless member questions about ordering food online, food in general, and other fun topics. This week we have Benjy, a QA Analyst who wishes he could fly!
Occupation: Quality Assurance Analyst
How and When Did You Discover Seamless? I honestly don’t remember, it was probably from a friend who mentioned it when talking about ordering lunch at work, but I’m sure it was years before I got my first job. When I did start working, I just knew it was a lunch option. I spent the first week or two at my first job exploring places in the neighborhood and when I got bored of them (right around the time the weather started to take a turn for the worse) I started using Seamless myself.
Where Do You Use Seamless? Mostly at work. Its not always for delivery though, sometimes I don’t feel like waiting when I show up at a restaurant so I order for pickup and my food is ready when I get there. (Ed. note: The pickup option is such a good option.)
Favorite Kind of Food: Anything with meat. I’ve never been a big salad or vegetable eater; I’ll eat them, but it never feels like enough. If I have a salad for lunch, I’ll always need something more filling at night.
Least Favorite Kind of Food: Steamed or cooked vegetables. I have some exceptions, but for the most part I don’t like them, I think it has to do with the consistency because I do like most vegetables when they’re raw and crunchy. Growing up I hated the texture of mushrooms but now I love them so maybe I’ll start liking other vegetables at some point too.
Favorite Place(s) to Order From on Seamless? I have two, the one I order from most often is Kosher Delight. Like I said, I’m a big meat eater, and its not easy to find kosher meat near where I work, so once in a while I’ll order from KD to get my fix during daylight hours. If I feel like I can get through the day without a big lunch, or want a healthier alternative, I’ve been ordering from Blossom Du Jour a lot recently. They’ve got a bunch of vegan options that are really great.
Least Favorite Thing About Calling Restaurants? Definitely getting put on hold. There’s nothing worse than calling a restaurant, hearing them mumble something followed by “please hold” and waiting for them to remember they left you on the line. (Ed. note: Totally. Being rejected is hard enough. But over the phone causes so much anxiety!)
Closest Previous Brush with Internet Fame? Don’t know that I’ve ever had one. When I was in elementary school I was on the news once after being asked a question at a Harry Potter book signing. The clip got reused for a national broadcast, if that would have happened today I could probably find it on the internet.
Favorite Celebrity Chef? I don’t watch many cooking shows, so I’ll choose the one I saw most recently which was about Chef Roblé. The episode was good and he seemed pretty intense about his work which I liked.
Favorite Cartoon Growing Up? Anything Looney Tunes. I’m sure there were others too (I remember the Animaniacs being a big part of my childhood) but the Looney Tunes is what I remember best.
What Superpower Do You Wish You Had? I definitely wish I could fly. I feel like that would save a lot of time on my commute every day. I love the NYC transit system and how easy it is to get almost anywhere in the city but as great as it is I think flying would be more fun. (Ed. note: Just believe.)
In the Past Year, What’s the Latest You’ve Stayed Up and Why? Sometime between 4 and 5AM, and I don’t remember for sure but I doubt I had a very good reason. As long as the following day is a Sunday and there are a few football games on in the afternoon, everything usually works out okay.
Plans for Tonight? Meeting a friend for drinks after work to catch up, then probably watch the Ranger game when I get home.
