Seamless has some of the best fans in the world. They stand by us during the hangriest of times and come to us to feed them day in and day out. This is a weekly feature where we highlight one of our proudest and most awesome Seamlessers. This week, we have Helen who has hoarded enough chopsticks to build herself a wooden table.
First Name: Helen
Occupation: Executive Manager at DialedIn.com
How and When Did You Discover Seamless? I discovered Seamless when I was intern with a fashion blog two summers ago. Around noon my boss started talking about “ordering from Seamless” and I was all like “what the heck is this nonsense? Does she need a pant suit with no seams? Is she reupholstering her sofa with a seamless slip cover?” But then a glorious selection of foods arrived at the office and suddenly I knew exactly what Seamless was. We’ve been in a committed relationship ever since.
Where Do You Use Seamless? I use Seamless everywhere. Work, play, my dreams and everywhere in between. I use it on weeknights when I’m too lazy/busy to cook and I love alternating between finding new places and sticking to the oldies but goodies. I use it at work almost every day to order from the deli downstairs because I don’t want to wait around ordering/waiting/paying. I feel like such a boss just running in grabbing my food and running out past all the numbskulls twiddling their thumbs in line.
Favorite Kind of Food: I’m very Eastern European so my heart belongs to perogies and borscht and goulash and schnitzel with noodles, duh. But when it comes to delivery, I’m all about Japanese. I can’t get enough. Seriously. Sushi, gyoza, edamame, age tofu, salmon skin. You name it, I want it. I’ve probably ordered from Kumo Sushi about a zillion times and it never gets old. I live by myself, but I order enough food for five to seven people so I have amassed enough chopsticks to build a small table. Come to think of it I might just do that.
Least Favorite Kind of Food: Indian. Indian. Indian. Granted I can manage some light dishes and I love going to Panna II for the pseudo acid trip, but anything heavy and curried and mushy is just out the window for me. I lived in Cambodia for an interim semester when I was 19 and I was pumped for all the Asian food. Unfortunately, Cambodia is more closely related to India where food culture is concerned and I was doomed. I found the one expat restaurant around and just ate scrambled eggs and cheeseburgers the whole time… I felt like such a crappy tourist.
Favorite Place to Order From on Seamless? Well Kumo, obviously, but I branch out too. Sometimes I want sushi but somebody else will want Pad Thai so we’ll really use the search food item feature to it’s fullest potential so everyone can get what they want. Alpha Fusion is good for nights like that. Otherwise, I love ordering from my neighborhood City Gourmet on weekends. I get a jacked up cheddar omelet with an iced coffee (maybe a bagel and a smoothie if I’m really hungover) and I have brunch in bed. It’s heaven.
What’s your record for orders placed on Seamless in a 24-hour period? Eh, only two. One time I worked for this really creepy lady on the Upper East Side and she had all of her meals delivered from various places. She was like a pasty white mole who never left the house. I’m not saying people who get all their food delivered are weirdos, but they’re probably all weirdos. I need to force myself to get up and leave the house and socialize and do stuff and having delicious foods and beverages at your beck and call can make that difficult so I limit myself.
If you had to eat one food for 30 days in a row, what would that be? The 3 rolls for $10.50 special from Kumo Sushi (I kinda just do this anyway). Always the shrimp tempura, the house roll and spicy tuna with crunch just packed to the gills with wasabi and drowned (no seriously, drowned) in soy sauce.
Least Favorite Thing About Calling Restaurants? Restaurants are busy and busy = loud. I feel like whenever I call a restaurant I’m talking to about a zillion people all at once. I can’t hear and I get panicky and then my food always gets screwed up and I need to excuse myself to have a weep.
Favorite Celebrity Chef? Jamie Oliver. When I was little I had the biggest crush on him and then he showed up at my town bookstore for a book signing and I freaked out and begged my mom to by me his cookbook so I could get it signed. Dude looked so sexy signing his name with that sharpie… I ran right home and started cooking up rosemary shrimp kebobs and virgin sangria. I was a cool 10-year-old.
What Superpower Do You Wish You Had? Flight. Duh. Anyone who says otherwise is just kidding themselves.
Plans for Tonight? You caught me on a good Thursday! I’m on vacation with my mother in Jamaica and tonight is “Jamaica night” at our hotel. I’ll definitely eat some jerk chicken and watch my mom try to boogie with the fire dancers.
