Christmas is over, and I spent it eating lots of Chinese food and Christmas cookies (we all have our traditions!). So back in the office yesterday, I knew that for lunch I needed something super delicious, but also no noodles or sweets. I scrolled through the list of Midtown options and immediately was overwhelmed! Sometimes the plethora of restaurants is crazy. So I quickly filtered the list to show only restaurants that were NEW! And then, I landed on a goldmine — Forcella.
I have eaten at the Forcella in the East Village, but have never opted for their lunch and had yet to try their newer location. I found it super nice that they offered a few differe lunch specials. They’ve got a full on pre-fixe lunch, and then also some classic salad/soup combos. I opted for the Insalata della Casa & Pizza Lunch Special with a Margherita Pizza. I couldn’t leave my order just at that though. So I ordered a starter of Arancini al 4 Formaggi. Who am I to turn down some perfectly deliciously sounding rice balls? So how was this Italian feast?
Forcella delivered a little bit later than their original delivery time estimate. While this was somewhat disappointing, the delivery man called me when he was a few blocks away and apologized for being late. I did really appreciate the check in!
When the food came I was extremely hungry and so ready to dig in! The salad was a simple house salad with greens, tomatoes, cucumbers and corn with side of lemony dressing. I thought the addition of the corn was really nice (I have a weakness for sweet corn), and made it a little extra special. The lemon dressing that came with it was sealed tightly and nothing spilled in transit.
The Arancini were very nice. They were salty, cheesey and soft, but with a light crispy layer on the outside. When I bit right into it, I was a bit surprised by the bright yellow interior. It threw me off for about a half second, and then I kept eating. The balls came with a mayo sauce. I found this odd, and wish it came with a more classic tomato or marinara… But you know what? It was still great!
Last, but most certainly not least, I ate the pizza. Unfortunately by this time, the pie was a bit cooled down. While the cheese congealed a little, the flavors were still fully in tact. The dough was salty and chewy. The sauce was sweet and tangy. And the basil on top added just the right amount of season. The pie was really solid and definitely one of the best pizzas that Midtown has to offer right now! I’m pretty thrilled that I have most of the pizza for leftovers today.
Overall this was an awesome lunch and will definitely be a saved favorite in my order history! It can be tough to find awesome pizza delivery in Midtown, and I think this is most definitely a new Seamless HQ go-to.
