One of the best things about chain restaurants is that you know exactly what you’re going to get each time. So while we here at Seamless love our local mom and pop shops, we also have a guilty soft spot for the chains, who deliver their consistent meals straight to our door. This week, Qdoba on 23rd Street showed Seamless HQ some love and extended their delivery area to feed some of us hungry Seamlessers. And what did we order from this popular Mexican establishment?
Starting off with some chips and hand-smashed guacamole (obviously), myself and Kyle and Russell from the Seamless Partner Relations team each ordered separate entrees. I, trying to be somewhat healthy, ordered a Grilled Chicken Taco Salad. Russell opted for the Ancho Chile BBQ Burrito and Kyle got the Grilled Flat Iron Steak Tacos. Let’s find out how it all tasted…
The entire meal came in two giant Qdoba bags. We got three awesome bags of crispy chips with three dips — the fresh and smooth guacamole, pico de gallo salsa, and the Qdoba 3-cheese queso dip. The queso was a bit unexpected, and perhaps looked a tiny bit questionable. But honestly, who doesn’t love melted cheese? This started (end then ended) the meal off perfectly.
To be very honest, my taco salad was not the best salad I’ve ever had. But I wasn’t expecting an all-star salad from Qdoba either. Trying to be a bit healthier at a chain can be a bit tough. However, the greens in the salad were indeed fresh, the tomatoes were nice and juicy and the chicken was spiced really nicely! I was super happy that the meat itself wasn’ t overcooked at all either. The fat-free picante ranch dressing that came with the salad had a nice kick, but perhaps a bit too much of one? After a few bites with the dressing, I stopped using it. Instead, I swapped it out for some extra guacamole to add flavor and moisture to the salad.
Russell on his burrito: The Ancho Chile BBQ Burrito was bolder in flavor than what I’d typically expect from Qdoba. It’s sweet, a little spicy, and substantial, which is really good in my book! It’s supposed to be inspired by Mexican mole, which is a favorite, so I was really looking forward to it. Thankfully there were slight hints of mole that I could sense, mostly in the boldness of the taste and the sweetness, as well as the smokiness. It’s hard to dislike nacho chips with this guac which they made even better with the cheese dip they provided. I personally haven’t tried Qdboa in years and this makes me intrigued enough to go back!
Kyle on his tacos: The steak tacos were deliciously seasoned and tender. The pieces of steak were moist and flavorful, not dried out. The combination of guacamole, beans and cheese made these tacos an irresistible and light lunch.
