Earlier today, we pushed out a new feature that’s going to augment the core functionality of GrubHub.com in a way that supersedes anything we’ve ever done. We’re calling it Food Telepathy, and it’s exactly what it sounds like – using our advanced technology, we’re now able to tap into your “hunger waves” to determine exactly what you’re hungry for. We then use that data to create a complete meal based around your craving. Long story short – we know exactly what you are hungry for…even before you do.
It’s been a long time in the making, and we’re happy to finally let this old boar out into the wild. The core concept, believe it or not, dates back to a trip Randall McElroy, former GrubHub employee and current 7-Eleven clerk, took to Mexico in 2006. Following a guided tour of the Mayan ruins at Tulum, McElroy was offered a lunch that just didn’t work for him.
He explained, “Dude, I’d already had potatoes for breakfast, and then I got this second helping for lunch. It was, literally, the last thing I wanted. I mean, the meal came with the tour, but still. So I started thinking about ways that GrubHub could maybe know, right out of the gate, what each diner truly wanted.”
So how’d we do it? After roughly six years of asking for help and three days of back and forth between our researcher friends at MIT and our executive team here in Chicago, we figured it out. We can read your hunger waves, translate them, and know exactly what you’re craving, often before you do. We won’t dull you with the science, but suffice it to say that it works and it’s glorious.
When cornered for an opinion, CEO Matt Maloney offered this: “You know how they always say that the way to people’s hearts is through their stomachs? Food Telepathy gets us in on the ground floor. And from there, it’s just a short walk across their liver to the promised land of brand loyalty. Frankly, it’s a silver bullet.”
McElroy added: “The impact this is going to have on repeat purchases can’t be understated. Bleeding edge stuff like this is once in a generation, like that Go-Gurt or the new Mountain Berry Blast Slurpees.”
So go ahead – try it out right here. We think you’ll love it as much as we do.
