The Hottest Dishes of 2020…So Far

Here’s what you’ve helped rise to stardom in the first half of the year.

Although 2020 has brought unprecedented challenges, Grubhub customers have remained steadfast in their commitment to exploring new dishes and connecting over food.

While in quarantine, you’ve hosted virtual game nights, sent meals to loved ones, and noshed on comfort foods to lift spirits. You’ve celebrated birthdays over burritos, anniversaries with lattes, and graduations with cinnamon rolls. You made acai bowls your breakfast of choice (359% more popular), had lunch meetings over Thai chicken salads (399% more popular) and dinner dates with rigatoni bolognese (292% more popular). Over the months, you’ve brought the bar home and ordered alcoholic beverages; you’ve even turned mealtimes into family activities with D.I.Y. orders. You also didn’t forget your morning coffee routine: orders of cold brew rose by 232%.

You’ve also embraced vegan and vegetarian ordering like never before. In New York, the mushroom burger saw a 150% rise in popularity, and sag paneer was a hit in the Bay Area, where it was 389% more popular. This year, Houston got in the veggie game by making fried mushrooms 238% more popular. So far in 2020, vegan orders have risen by 23% with plant-based burgers specifically increasing by 90% and general plant-based orders by a whopping 135%!

With more than half a million orders placed a day, you’ve traveled through taste, even when quarantined at home. Here’s what you’ve helped rise to stardom in the first half of the year and what we’re predicting will be on the rise in the next six months.
