Here at Grubhub, our employees are pretty obsessed with food. Every day, we’re making sure delicious food finds its way to your door….and to ours. Say what? Correct, we too order from Grubhub (so meta).
With our new “What I Ate in a Week” series, you’ll get a sneak peek into the lives of actual — never not hungry — Grubhub team members. A nice benefit that happens to come with our jobs is what we call “mealperks” — our weekly Grubhub stipend. Clearly, we’re using this to get the best bites in town each and every week.
On deck, we have: Drew from the Product Marketing team. Get the lowdown on his delivery highlights of the week and top ordering hacks.
Let's meet Drew.
I’ve been in New York for eight years, with the last four spent in Hell’s Kitchen. I love my neighborhood because it’s home to tons of great local restaurants (my fave: Empanada Mama). I spend most of my free time with my friends and family in New York, exploring different neighborhoods and checking out new restaurants. I’m a vegetarian, so you’ll often find me at places with great veggie-focused menus.
And here are his top delivery eats from last week...
Farmer’s Favorite Bowl from Dig Inn: Mondays are always busy at the office, so I usually don’t have much time to think about lunch. My go-to, quick lunch lately is Dig Inn. It’s fresh and delicious! I order the Farmer’s Favorite bowl and load it up with veggies: sweet potatoes, carrots, kale — and my favorite from their summertime items — peaches. (I’ll be sad to see them go when the fall menu launches!) If you’ve ever been to a Dig Inn in midtown around lunchtime, you know the line can stretch all the way to the door. I skip the line by placing a pickup order on Grubhub. Their “pickup” station near the registers makes it easy to get in and get out quickly.
Quinoa Bowl from Del Sur: On Tuesday, I ordered one of my all-time favorites for lunch: a quinoa bowl from Del Sur. Since I order from here so often, I can always find Del Sur quickly in the “My Grubhub” tab in the app. I sometimes order it with tofu, but today I’m feeling their sweet plantains. They’re amazing. I also get tomatoes and zucchini, and top it off with their chimichurri. Chimichurri is an Argentine sauce made with cilantro, garlic, jalapenos and vinegar — I had never tried it before I discovered Del Sur, but now I am always craving it. Pro tip: I preorder my lunch first-thing in the morning to be delivered at lunchtime. There’s nothing worse than realizing it’s already 2:30pm and you forgot to order lunch!
Another great reason to order from Del Sur, their bowls are usually enough food for two lunches. I save half for lunch tomorrow and get two meals for the price of one!
Veggie Swiss Avocado Sandwich from Bottino: If I’m in the mood for a sandwich, I pick up a “#19” at Bottino, which is hands-down my favorite sandwich shop in the city. The #19 is a new addition to the menu: it has tomato, arugula, sprouts, avocado, cheese, and herbal mayo. Yum!
Tofu & Veggies from Between the Bread: I’m feeling something healthy, I filter for “Healthy” in the Grubhub app. I find a new place called Between the Bread — I’ve never heard of it but it has over a hundred 5-star ratings and lots of positive reviews on Grubhub, so I give it a shot. I order sesame tofu, broccoli and brown rice. All delicious! Grubhub sends me a text later in the afternoon to ask how my food was, and I answer a few simple yes/no questions to let others know I loved it! But…my healthy kick never lasts too long.
Alas, there’s often free food around the Grubhub office, especially on Fridays. Today there are donuts in the kitchen and I can’t pass them up. I go with a classic — a yellow cake donut with chocolate icing. It’s a 13/10!
