Here at Grubhub, our employees are pretty obsessed with food. Every day, we’re making sure delicious food finds its way to your door….and to ours. Say what? Correct, we too order from Grubhub (so meta).
With our “What I Ate in a Week” series, you’ll get a sneak peak into the lives of actual — never not hungry — Grubhub team members. A nice benefit that happens to come with our jobs is what we call “mealperks” — our weekly Grubhub stipend. Clearly, we’re using this to get the best bites in town each and every week.
On deck, we have: Mallorie, Senior Manager of Social Media. Get the lowdown on her delivery highlights of the week and top ordering hacks.
Let's meet Mallorie
I’m a food junkie. I plan my life around my next meal, my trip itineraries around the best local bites, and will try all of the latest Instagram food fads. I love all food; my palette doesn’t discriminate. I like it ooey gooey or umami, 5-stars or from food carts… I’m just always on the quest for the next amazing dish.
I’ve lived in New York City for almost a decade and currently reside with my husband in Astoria, which is a food mecca nestled in the burrough of Queens. I’m mostly pescetarian, but I don’t adhere to food labels, because I also give in to my cravings for charcuterie, pork buns, soup dumplings, and sausage. I also love to put pineapple on pizza (that I then dip in ranch dressing).
And here are my top delivery eats from last week…
Breakfast Sandwich on a Croissant + Triple Berry Smoothie from Guy and Gallard:
There is nothing that is needed more after a long Sunday funday than the right breakfast to carry me into Monday morning. My Monday was stacked with meetings, so I decided to make the most of my commute. Once I got to the subway station, I took out my phone, opened the Grubhub app, and went right to “My Grubhub” to express reorder my go-to breakfast for mornings like this. With a few taps, I knew my food was in the works and would be ready at Guy and Gallard by the time I got off the train. I placed this order for pickup since it’s on my way to the office and I can easily swing by to grab my food on the way in. There is no better feeling than breezing past all the pre-caffeinated New Yorkers waiting for their coffee and going straight for my waiting food. Ok, maybe cracking open a breakfast sandwich to see all the melty cheese could compete. Either way, they’re both amazing.
Salmon Caesar Salad and Hot Potato Chips with Bleu Cheese Fondue from The Smith:
The Smith is an institution in NYC. With locations throughout Manhattan, I always seem to end up there when I’m looking for a tasty, crowd pleasing restaurant. What do I love the most about the Smith? They deliver on Grubhub. When lunchtime hit, I was in the mood for a salmon caesar salad, so I did a quick search for the dish and The Smith popped up. SOLD. I also added their famous hot potato chips with bleu cheese fondue. I was admittedly skeptical of how melted cheese and crispy chips would deliver, but they took the utmost care in packaging my lunch. Seriously, it delivered incredibly. They packaged the chips in a wax bag so they stayed super crunchy and the fondue in a cardboard pint container so it stayed warm and melty. When it came to my salad, both the salmon and dressing were packaged separately to keep them from wilting the lettuce and parmesan crisps. I was in a meeting when my food arrived so it was about 20 minutes before I could dive in after its delivery and everything was still in perfect condition.
Cheesy Bean & Rice Burrito and Cheese Quesadilla from Taco Bell:
One of the first things people ask me when I tell them I work for Grubhub is “do you get so much food at your office?!” — and the answer is YES! This week, we had a HUGE taco party at our offices around the country to celebrate the launch of thousands of Taco Bell locations on Grubhub. Yup, you can now get Taco Bell delivered. *cue angels singing* I’ve long been a Taco Bell fan because of how vegetarian-friendly their menu is. I don’t eat beef or chicken, so being able to have anything on the menu made vegetarian is a huge win. Lucky for me, the Grubhub team ordered tons of items I could eat for our office lunch. I piled my plate with my OG favorite, the cheesy bean and rice burrito, and added a cheese quesadilla for good measure. They also sent tons of taco sauce, salsa, guacamole and sour cream, so I made something of a sauce station at my desk. I was definitely ready for a siesta after that taco party.
Funfetti Cookie from Schmackery’s:
What’s better than celebrating an office birthday? Celebrating an office birthday with cookies from Schmackery’s! One of my Chicago-based coworkers was celebrating her 30th, and the team wanted to make sure we could take part in the festivities all the way in NYC. Lucky for us, they ordered a ton of cookies from Schmackery’s. The party was a little early, so I snagged a funfetti (with vanilla icing AND sprinkles) and ate it after lunch.
Our New York team also sent the birthday girl a bottle of sparkling wine from Urban Pantry in Chicago. I knew it was going to be a busy morning, so I actually placed the order the night before using Grubhub’s preorder feature to make sure the champagne would arrive right on time for the party. This is one of my favorite ways to use Grubhub – to give the gift of food (or beverage!). Especially since you can order ahead, it makes being part of the celebration super easy.
Pizza with all the toppings from Uno Pizzeria & Grill:
After a busy week, I absolutely love coming home and having a night on the couch with my husband and our movie queue. Another part of our Friday night traditions is ordering from Uno Pizzeria & Grill. I’m not sure when this tradition started, but it’s mostly because my husband and I have such different taste in food, but both seriously love pizza. Their menu allows me to order my personal pan loaded with toppings (sausage, pineapple, mushrooms, onion and banana peppers) and my husband to get his thin crust with pepperoni. We’re both happy, and neither of us have to share our pizza. Sadly, we finished our pizza before we could snap a pic, but I managed to find one on our site; look at those pepperonis.
Assorted Crostini and a Charcuterie and Cheese Board from Il Bambino:
I spent Saturday afternoon with friends at an event in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park. After a day in the sun, paddling boats around the pond, I worked up an appetite. I spent my cab ride home thinking about Il Bambino, one of my favorite spots in Astoria for a girls’ night with friends or date night with my husband. They have a great selection of crostini with literally every kind of topping imaginable, plus all sorts of panini, salads and an array of meats and cheeses. I conveniently arrived home around dinner time and hit up Grubhub. I ordered a meat and cheese plate (which I knew my husband wouldn’t eat), a few crostini (that I knew he would eat), and some extra bread and dips (that we’d both be into). Dinner arrived in 25 minutes and we feasted! Oops…I did it again. Eating food > taking a photo of it. But, I managed to find another pic on our site so you could catch that crostini goodness.
