Here at Grubhub, our employees are pretty obsessed with food. Every day, we’re making sure delicious food finds its way to your door….and to ours. Say what? Correct, we too order from Grubhub (so meta).
With our “What I Ate in a Week” series, you’ll get a sneak peak into the lives of actual — never not hungry — Grubhub team members. A nice benefit that happens to come with our jobs is what we call “mealperks” — our weekly Grubhub stipend. Clearly, we’re using this to get the best bites in town each and every week.
On deck, we have: Dylan, an Art Director on our Creative Team. Get the lowdown on his delivery highlights of the week and top ordering hacks.
Let’s meet Dylan:
I’m a corn-fed Midwestern native, whiskey aficionado, vinyl collector and Netflix fanatic. I’m always on the hunt to try a new restaurant in town. I live on the north side of Chicago in a cozy one-bed apartment. Some of my all-time favorite foods include panang curry, steak tacos, spicy tuna rolls and pretty much anything that has chocolate in it.
And here are my top delivery eats from last week…
Taco Night featuring Fiesta Mexicana:
I eat Mexican food at least once a week with the girlfriend. She likes flour tortillas, I like corn, but we both adore steak tacos. I am a bit of a planner so I like to use Grubhub’s preorder feature to schedule exactly when we want the food to arrive for dinner. Something that has become a part of every taco night order from Fiesta Mexicana — on top of the tacos and guac — is queso fundido. It’s a thick sauce of melted cheese seasoned with chorizo and spices, typically served hot with tortillas or tortilla chips. All three of these dishes combined make for one tasty taco night.
Spinach and Pesto Bowl from Protein Bar:
When I have a hectic day and need to grab something quick, I order the spinach and pesto bowl for pickup from Protein Bar (which is conveniently right near the Grubhub Chicago office). This may just seem like another basic quinoa bowl at first glance, but it’s a tasty and healthy way to keep that busy day moving right along. It has all natural chicken, homemade basil pesto, spinach and of course parmesan cheese. I dig the pesto bowl because it is the perfect amount of food. It fills you up but doesn’t have you falling asleep at your desk; it keeps you powering through the day.
Panang Curry from Siam Rice:
When I want a treat yo’ self meal, I order pick up from Siam Rice. This place has truly changed my lunch game. Panang curry is a very popular Thai curry topped with lime leaves and served with Thai jasmine rice. You can get it with a variety of proteins, but I always get the chicken and don’t plan on branching out (it’s just that good). When I get out of the office and walk into Siam’s front door, it’s always the same experience. I am greeted by the same smiling employees — who seem to remember everyone in the city of Chicago’s first name — handing me my order and I am right back out the door.
Aside from the dish being so freaking tasty Siam Rice is not skimpy on the portions. I usually end up having enough food for the next two meals and I am 100% okay with that 🙂
