Here at Grubhub, our employees are pretty obsessed with food. Every day, we’re making sure delicious food finds its way to your door….and to ours. Say what? Correct, we too order from Grubhub (so meta).
With our “What I Ate in a Week” series, you’ll get a sneak peek into the lives of actual — never not hungry — Grubhub team members. A nice benefit that happens to come with our jobs is what we call “mealperks” — our weekly Grubhub stipend. Clearly, we’re using this to get the best bites in town each and every week.
On deck, we have: Hank, a copywriter on our Creative Team. Get the lowdown on his delivery highlights of the week and top ordering hacks.
Let’s meet Hank.
Hi, my name is Hank and I hail from the greatest state in the union, Ohio. So, when I moved to New York a little over a year ago I was like, “Man, look at all this great food!” Then, I proceeded to not try any of it and eat the same stuff I’d eaten the previous 26 years of my life. I’m a creature of habit, whatever.
When I get home from work I’m tired. And when I’m tired, I just want to watch TV. So I kick back, order that delivery, and get to binge-watching my favorite shows (or gaming).
And here are my top delivery eats from last week…
Thai Fried Rice and Edamame from Lily Thai
Thai food was always something my mother encouraged me to try while growing up. Well, Mama, we made it.
Kind of. You see, I dabble. I go fried rice and edamame which actually barely even qualifies as dabbling.
However, Lily Thai’s fried rice packs a pow. What’s a pow you ask? A pow is the slices of jalapeno pepper they add in that smack you right in the kisser and make your head tilt to the side and your eyebrows raise.
I love a good pow. And I love good edamame. Ever since the first one popped in my mouth we’ve been two peas in a pod. (Don’t you dare stop reading after that dad joke.)
Herb Roasted Chicken Bowl from Dig Inn
First of all, express reorder, the easiest thing you will do all day.
Second, this is what you get for lunch when you want to strut past all your coworkers with your head held high.
“Oh Hank, LOVE Dig Inn.”
“So healthy, you’re killing it.”
“How do you do it, Hank, how?”
The bag gives the allusion of healthy eating. I mean even the vegans and vegetarians are giving you a thumbs up as you walk by. (All love.)
And yeah, I feel pretty good about myself too, mainly because I ordered the mac and cheese side. But no one will ever know. To them, I’m kale, cauliflower, and broccoli Hank.
Calzone and Garlic Knots from Sal’s Pizzeria
After a healthy lunch, I like to treat myself. Not healthy you say? Did you see that chicken? That baby was roasted, not even fried. Let me live.
And when I like to treat myself I call up my buddy Sal. Now, I know a lot of you have favorite pizza places— and they’re all great—but in my neck of the woods, Sal’s Pizzeria is the tops.
To quote the great Papi, “It’s a pizza the moment you put your fists in the dough.” And, though I’ve never met Sal, I like to believe he makes all my pizzas personally.
For this meal, Sal made me a beautiful golden-brown calzone stuffed with cheese, pepperoni, green peppers, and onions. Pair that with a side of garlic knots and we’re heading to Italy folks.
Compliments to the chef, my man.
