Here at Grubhub, our employees are pretty obsessed with food. Every day, we’re making sure
delicious food finds its way to your door….and to ours. Say what? Correct, we too order from Grubhub (so meta).
With our “What I Ate in a Week” series, you’ll get a sneak peek into the lives of actual — never not hungry — Grubhub team members. A nice benefit that happens to come with our jobs is what we call “mealperks” — our weekly Grubhub stipend. Clearly, we’re using this to get the best bites in town each and every week.
On deck, we have: Tim, our New York Office Coordinator. Get the lowdown on his delivery highlights of the week and top ordering hacks.
Let’s meet Tim.
Hi, My name’s Tim! I am a filmmaker, comedian, and lover of all things delicious. Thankfully, I live in New York–the city that always eats. Some of my favorite things to indulge in are burritos, kimchi, and Ben and Jerry’s Cherry Garcia. I love most food and my palate never stops expanding. I actually just found out last week how much I love fried plantains…so good. (Editor’s note: By the way, plantains are a trending winter food on Grubhub!)
And here are my top delivery eats from last week…
Kale Salad from The Mill
Monday is here and it’s time to start the week off right. I regularly order from The Mill because it’s close to my work, affordable, and mostly healthy. I use the express reorder feature on Grubhub because I get a variation of the same salad every time. It usually involves kale, chicken salad, bacon, avocado, sweet potato, quinoa, red onion, and sesame ginger dressing. These custom salads have become a staple in my diet. I try to have a nutritious lunch because who knows what’s gonna happen later. It’s my way of telling myself, “it’s okay if you accidentally ate a sleeve and half of Chips Ahoy! (while watching TV)–you ate some kale earlier.”
Margherita Pie from Little Italy Pizza
On Wednesday I was on my way to record a podcast at Gotham Podcast Studio. On the train there I decided it would be nice to get a pizza for the office. I put in the address of the studio in the Grubhub app, searched ‘pizza’, and chose to pick up the order. Ten minutes later, I walked up to the counter and said something like, “uh…pickup…Grubhub”, to the pizza guy. Despite my poor ability of forming words into a coherent sentence, he knew exactly what I meant. He handed me a hot and fresh margherita pie. This was my first time ordering from Little Italy Pizza and mistakes were NOT made that day.
Tuna and Salmon Poke Bowl from The Cibo
Friday is here and it’s time to treat myself. I decided on a build-your-own Poke Bowl from The Cibo. This was actually the first time I’ve had a Poke Bowl so I didn’t really know what I was ordering, let alone what ingredients I should be choosing in my customizable bowl. This was just a bold decision all around because the restaurant had so many options. I chose salmon, tuna, rice, kimchi, cilantro, seaweed salad, ginger, jalapeno, poke sauce, etc. You name it and it was in that bowl. If I’m being honest, I added way too many contrasting flavors and will definitely reconsider next time. That being said I still loved the restaurant’s option for customization. Respect. (Editor’s note: If you’ve never tried poke before, read our article on how to order it like a pro.)
