What I Ate in a Week: Adam’s Food Diary

Here at Grubhub, our employees are pretty obsessed with food. Every day, we’re making sure delicious food finds its way to your door….and to ours. Say what? Correct, we too order from Grubhub (so meta).

With our “What I Ate in a Week” series, you’ll get a sneak peek into the lives of actual — never not hungry — Grubhub team members. A nice benefit that happens to come with our jobs is what we call “mealperks” — our weekly Grubhub stipend. Clearly, we’re using this to get the best bites in town each and every week.

On deck, we have: Adam, a Corporate Sales Executive on our Enterprise Sales team. Get the lowdown on his delivery highlights of the week and top ordering hacks.

Let’s meet Adam.

I’m a sports & news junkie who loves to eat everything (except grapefruit) and tries new foods whenever I can. I grew up in the Washington, D.C. area, went to college in Auburn, Alabama, and have lived in Memphis and Dallas at points in my life. I love trying new foods and traveling to new places; both of these have shown me that food is a powerful commonality that can bring people together no matter their differences. I moved to NYC in 2012 and currently live in the Upper East Side of Manhattan with my wife and my 14-year old black lab (that I adopted while I was in college). Some of my favorite foods include tacos, roasted duck, a whole hog roast, BBQ, and my mother’s chopped liver.

And here are my top delivery eats from last week...

Gyro Platter from Sammy’s Halal

I was swamped with meetings on Monday, so for lunch I ordered something close to the office that would be inexpensive…and I also wanted to try a new restaurant, so win-win. Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised with the gyro over rice and salad from Sammy’s Halal. I had never ordered here before but really enjoyed it!

Rice and Veggies from BONMi

One of the perks of working for a food delivery company like Grubhub is that catered food is almost always around the office. This week, we have various sales managers in town for 2019 meetings and they ordered from BONMi. I made a plate of jasmine rice, shredded pickled carrots, pickled onions, cabbage, cucumbers, cilantro, chicken, and BONMi sauce.

Chicken Burrito from Al Horno:

Since I was concentrating on putting the final touches on a big presentation…I was in the mood for something filing. I love this burrito from Al Horno and order it quite frequently, so I simply hit express reorder and I was done. The chicken burrito comes packed with black beans, pico de gallo, low-fat pepper jack, brown rice and Al Horno sauce. Served in whole wheat tortilla. (And guess what? I nailed the presentation and 100% owe it to this tasty burrito.)

A Slice from Joe’s Pizza & an Assortment of Doughnuts from Doughnuttery

Another day of work means another day of food ordered to the office. This time it was cheese pizza from Joe’s Pizza that was left over from one of the meetings in our new office space. I love putting hot sauce on cheese pizza as it tends to give spice to something that would normally be pretty plain. To make the day a bit sweeter…I even had a few doughnuts from Doughnuttery that my coworker ordered. I love when there’s leftovers!

Warm Bases from minigrow:

I wanted to eat something healthy(ish)–and also try something new–so I decided to order one of the warm bases from minigrow. In that bowl of goodness…I had fresh spinach noodles, shiso basil pesto dressing, roasted chicken thigh, roasted broccoli, pickled carrots, miso corn, roasted mushrooms, herbed grape tomatoes, spicy kale kimchi, toasted sesame, and crispy shallots. 10/10 would recommend.

Tune in next week for the latest edition of “What I Ate in a Week.” Will it make you hungry? Probably...but, we can help with that.
