Here at Grubhub, our employees are pretty obsessed with food. Every day, we’re making sure
delicious food finds its way to your door…and to ours. Say what? Correct, we too order from Grubhub (so meta).
With our “What I Ate in a Week” series, you’ll get a sneak peek into the lives of actual — never not hungry — Grubhub team members. A nice benefit that happens to come with our jobs is what we call “mealperks” — our weekly Grubhub stipend. Clearly, we’re using this to get the best bites in town each and every week.
On deck, we have: Alyssa, an Account Advisor on the Restaurant Network Team. Get the lowdown on her delivery highlights of the week and top ordering hacks.
Let’s meet Alyssa.
Hello! I’m Alyssa, originally from a small town in central Wisconsin, and thus my love of ALL things cheese! I moved to Chicago for college and never looked back. The adrenaline of the city and the ever-changing food scene keeps me rooted right here. My love of food and cooking/baking goes back to my childhood days, so it’s no surprise I landed at Grubhub working as an Account Advisor with other food-loving colleagues.
When I’m not working, I love to cook and try out new recipes I’ve stumbled across, mostly on Pinterest. When the hunger strikes and I’m not in the mood to try my hand at the stove, I’ll round up my friends and head to one of the many restaurants in Chicago. With all that cheese and delicious food I consume, running is my BFF. I’ve been a runner since I was in 6th grade and embrace all four seasons of the outdoors. And now on to the real point of this blog post–FOOD!
And here are my top delivery eats from last week…
Kale Salad from RPM Italian
After a long week, all I wanted to do was head home and veg on the couch and watch TV. Suddenly I realized that I had some Grubhub mealperks that I hadn’t used, so I quickly placed a delivery from RPM Italian for my all-time favorite salad. It’s the shredded kale with mushrooms and bacon, topped off with a champagne dressing. You might say, salad? BORING. Not this one, friends. It’s simply perfect. And to make it even better, it came lickity split thanks to Grubhub. My Friday night was saved.
Smoked Brisket Quesadilla from Chicago Q
I love good BBQ and Chicago Q is one of my favorite spots to get it from. It’s on the fancier end of the spectrum and has even won multiple awards for its delicious smoked meats. I was definitely feeling a good quesadilla, but wanted something with more punch than my typical chicken and cheese. So when I did a quick search for quesadillas on Grubhub and Chicago Q came up with a smoked brisket quesadilla…I had to try it. This quesadilla was stuffed with Chihuahua cheese, avocado crema, pico, and thick slices of brisket. YUM! I wanted this for dinner and preordered my meal so it would come just as I was leaving the office for the night. A perfect dinner from a high-end BBQ spot. I love that I’m able to plan in advance with Grubhub and order from higher-end spots that I may not have had a chance to dine in at.
Short Rib Quesadillas from Timothy O’Toole’s Pub
Spring in Chicago is always iffy, and this year is no exception. We’ve had our fair share of cold and nothing speaks to me more than comfort food, specifically, short ribs. Given I’ve been on a kick with the quesadillas and all, I did another search and found Timothy O’Toole’s Pub. Short rib quesadillas? Don’t mind if I do. These were stuffed with pickled jalapenos, a three-cheese blend, slaw and drizzled with BBQ sauce. Yes, it was delicious and just want I wanted. And, I was able to use the new tracking feature to see where my delivery driver was with my precious quesadillas. He arrived on time, with my dish safely (and warmly) tucked away in that signature Grubhub bag.
