What I Ate in a Week: Maria’s Food Diary

Here at Grubhub, our employees are pretty obsessed with food. Every day, we’re making sure delicious food finds its way to your door…and to ours. Say what? Correct, we too order from Grubhub (so meta).

With our “What I Ate in a Week” series, you’ll get a sneak peek into the lives of actual — never not hungry — Grubhub team members. A nice benefit that happens to come with our jobs is what we call “mealperks” — our weekly Grubhub stipend. Clearly, we’re using this to get the best bites in town each and every week.

On deck, we have: Maria, a Restaurant Sales Executive at Grubhub. Get the lowdown on her delivery highlights of the week and top ordering hacks.

Let’s meet Maria.

Hi there! My name is Maria. I work on our Grubhub Restaurant Network team setting up new restaurant partnerships in Portland, OR.  We have some seriously talented chefs and diverse restaurants in our city. Hence, I am beyond grateful for my job at Grubhub getting our restaurants set up for introduction to our city locals and visitors. Every day, I hear some of the most amazing stories of what inspired our restaurant owners to cultivate their brands and menus.

Outside of work, I love to snowboard, surf, travel, do yoga, hike, see live music, attend Portland Trailblazers and Timbers games. My dachshund Rampage is my #1 sidekick, also a lover of Portland area parks, trails, beaches and awesome Portland restaurants.

Here are my top eats from last week…

Teriyaki Chicken from Ate-oh-Ate

Everybody picks favorites. Ate-oh-Ate makes up at least 20% of the lifetime of my Grubhub orders.  Thank goodness for our Grubhub express reorder feature! Ate-oh-Ate has incredible Hawaiian food, in huge portions. I highly recommend the teriyaki chicken and green salad with miso dressing.  It’s not a coincidence that the restaurant group’s other locations are also some of my local favorites and available on Grubhub, including Big’s Chicken, La Luna Cafe and Laurelhurst Market. Live Aloha!

Chicken Tacos from Char Latin Grill

Char specializes in Peruvian inspired cuisine and are famous for their rotisserie chicken.  I order the chicken tacos every time, which are made with slow roasted rotisserie pulled chicken and topped with some of the most unique sauces in Portland.  Portions at Char are beyond generous and most items are under $10. My husband swears that their Saltado Bowl is the best that he has had anywhere in the world, after living in Peru for several years!

Kale Caesar Salad from Migration Brewing

When  the Portland Trailblazers were in the NBA playoffs last week and the sun shining, it was the perfect day to go to Migration Brewing to order dinner for pickup. The Migration Brewing team is always on point with their menu and top-notch operations. My heart belongs to Migration’s Kale Caesar Salad with chickpea croutons, hazelnuts and topped with chicken. Woodfired Pizza from Migration’s Gresham location is also a favorite of mine.

Wings from Pok Pok Wing

Pok Pok’s famous fish sauce wings are truly magical, and for many of us Portlanders they are positively addictive.  Chef Andy Ricker earned his James Beard Award for Best Chef with flying colors! They are one of my favorite dishes to eat and it’s so convenient that I can order them on Grubhub for gatherings with friends and family. Every guest is guaranteed to LOVE them.  Grubhub delivers from several Pok Pok Wing locations, so the odds are good that they are available in your delivery area. Pro tip: order extra, as everybody in the group will want more than a couple!

Tune in next week for the latest edition of “What I Ate in a Week.” Will it make you hungry? Probably...but, we can help with that.
