What I Ate in a Week: Michelle’s Food Diary

Here at Grubhub, our employees are pretty obsessed with food. Every day, we’re making sure delicious food finds its way to your door…and to ours. Say what? Correct, we too order from Grubhub (so meta).

With our “What I Ate in a Week” series, you’ll get a sneak peek into the lives of actual — never not hungry — Grubhub team members. A nice benefit that happens to come with our jobs is what we call “mealperks” — our weekly Grubhub stipend. Clearly, we’re using this to get the best bites in town each and every week.

On deck, we have: Michelle, a Driver Care Specialist Grubhub. Get the lowdown on her delivery highlights of the week and top ordering hacks.

Let’s Meet Michelle

Hi! I’m Michelle and yes, The Beatles got it right. I am my own bell. I was born and raised in Tempe, Arizona and I am pretty proud of all of the different foods I have tried. I have been a pescetarian since the fourth grade. Despite that, I have had homemade Gnocchi and other pasta all over Italy, Roasted Scorpion in China, and tried local Morozhenoe (ice cream) while in Russia.

If you’re wondering why I’ve traveled so much, it’s because I was a part of an international professional children’s chorus. I have sung in cathedrals and performance venues all over the world. My time abroad has really made me appreciate different foods and cultures. In addition to working at Grubhub, I’m also an adjunct professor teaching Strategic Management at Grand Canyon University.

And here are my top delivery eats from last week…

Strawberry Cheesecake Milkshake from Rewind

Let’s be honest. Mondays are hard. So when Monday afternoon rolled around, I NEEDED one of Rewind’s super fancy Strawberry Cheesecake Milkshakes. You may ask yourself, “Who NEEDS a milkshake? Doesn’t she just want a milkshake?” What you may not understand is that these milkshakes are crazy amazing. First of all, Rewind blends vanilla ice cream with cheesecake and strawberry bites and they also blend in Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Then, they top it all off with fresh strawberries and more Cinnamon Toast Crunch. It legitimately reminds me of Strawberry Cheesecake.

Pretzel Bites from Mellow Mushroom

Tuesday was a wildly busy one for me! I barely had time to even grab lunch. So, when it came to dinner–what did I do? I ordered comfort food as soon as I got home! Mellow Mushroom is mouthwatering AND it’s open late! What’s not to love? Plus, I’ve been on a pretzel bite and cheese sauce binge. Win. Win.

Tofu and Broccoli from Hot Wok

It’s my weekend! (Wednesday night, to clarify) And because my off days are Thursday and Friday, I’m ready to celebrate! Now it’s time for my guilty pleasure: Hot Wok takeout. I grew up down the street from this cute family-owned place and came to adore their food more than pretty much anything. (Besides my cat. She’s the cutest thing ever.)

Anyway, I have been all over the world and I’ve traveled to every state, but there is no Chinese food I love more than the Hot Wok on Warner and Kyrene. They will pretty much make any alterations if they have the ability and I always get their crab rangoons. They are life-changing. It means the world to me that I can get my childhood favorite delivered to me anytime with Grubhub.

Sandwiches from Slice

Before you think, “Hey, that’s not Pizza!”, you should know that Slice is actually a super special Grubhub internal experience just for Grubhub employees. We use it as an interactive training experience where all of our care employees are able to work as “drivers” and “restaurants.” We do this because we want our care team to give the best possible experience to all of our partners!

So when our new hire training class opened Slice and was offering super yummy Caprese sandwiches from Z Catering, I could not say no. The best part was that in addition to the food being delicious, we got to interact with all of our new hires!

Tune in next week for the latest edition of “What I Ate in a Week.” Will it make you hungry? Probably...but, we can help with that.
