If you close your eyes you can picture the long, sunny beaches of Rio de Janeiro through a simple sip of one of Celinha Moreira’s colorful signature smoothies. You open your eyes and you’re back in the Bay, in a quaint restaurant in San Francisco’s Dolores Park.
Seemingly modeled after the owner, Bebebar’s eclectic menu bounces from bright and flavorful to familiarly delicious – the flavors of your dish only limited by your comfort level. The walls, in a similar fashion, are splashed with paintings crafted by locals and tell only a fraction of the story about the community’s involvement with the restaurant.
Dreaming of a better life for her and her young daughter, Moreira packed up everything she had and moved to San Francisco. In hand were the keys to a new home, but, more importantly Moreria carried the keys to success: establishing and fostering love in her new community. It also didn’t hurt that the authentic Brazilian food she was cooking was some of the best in San Francisco.
After 30 years of dedication to her neighborhood it was time for the favor to be returned. Friends, neighbors, and total strangers came together to provide the funding for the creation of Bebebar, and San Francisco’s newest Brazilian restaurant was born.
While the San Francisco bay may feel a long way from the beaches of Ipanema, it just takes a bite to bring you there, and Celinha Moreira has just the recipe.
