What I Ate in a Week: Jillian’s Food Diary

Here at Grubhub, our employees are pretty obsessed with food. Every day, we’re making sure delicious food finds its way to your door… and to ours. Say what? Correct, we too order from Grubhub (so meta).

With our “What I Ate in a Week” series, you’ll get a sneak peek into the lives of actual—never not hungry—Grubhub team members. A nice benefit that happens to come with our jobs is what we call “mealperks”—our weekly Grubhub credit. Clearly, we’re using this to get the best bites in town each and every week.

On deck, we have: Jillian, a Client Success Manager at Grubhub. Get the lowdown on her delivery highlights of the week and top ordering hacks.

Let’s meet Jillian

Hi! I’m Jillian and I’m a Client Success Manager at Grubhub, which means that I help our corporate clients make sure their hungry employees are well-fed and happy. My grandmother’s talent for the perfect Italian meatballs and sauce didn’t get passed down, so I’ve relied on Grubhub since I moved to the Upper East Side five years ago. I grew up in Stamford, Connecticut and went to college in Boston. This is a big year for me, as my 30th birthday is in November and I’ll be celebrating with my friends at Disney World, eating as many Mickey-shaped foods as I can.

When I’m not in the office, I can generally be found attending a Broadway show or volunteering at various non-profit theaters in Manhattan. You’re also likely to spot me in Central Park playing softball (Go Freeballers and Friars!) or cheering on the New York Yankees and New Jersey Devils. If it’s Sunday during football season, look for me in the MetLife Stadium parking lot for home games. I’ll be the one with the bagels.

Here are Jillian’s top delivery eats from last week…

Buffalo Cauliflower Burrito from Al Horno Lean Mexican Kitchen

My food allergies can sometimes make eating out and delivery complicated. Luckily, Grubhub has a special instructions section, so I can ask restaurants to take extra care of my order. For lunch, I got a buffalo cauliflower burrito with brown rice and pinto beans from Al Horno Lean Mexican Kitchen. It arrived right on time and was just spicy enough. Plus, the cauliflower means it was guilt-free, right? Right.

Market Plate from Market Crates

Many of my clients ask me about Market Crates, so I figured I had to try it out for myself. I was able to preorder my meal to be ready for pick up at 12:30. I opted for a Market Plate with braised beef, mac and cheese and vegetables. Mom would be so proud. It was absolutely delicious. I was able to save on the delivery fee by switching to pick-up and got a nice walk in during lunchtime. No complaints from me. And I totally understand why everyone loves this place so much.

Tuna Sandwich at Junior’s Restaurant

Being a theater nerd and growing up so close to New York City means I’ve had a lot of pre-show meals at Junior’s Restaurant. They’ve got the pre-theater rush down and are on Grubhub as well. I used the express reorder option and opted for my usual: a tuna sandwich and fries. The challah bread here is a personal favorite and express reorder makes it easy to get it. Also, it took all my willpower to not add a slice of their famous cheesecake to my order. Maybe next time!

Egg Noodles at Minigrow

One of my longtime lunch staples, Minigrow, recently launched their fall menu options, so I had to check it out. I opted for the egg noodles, broccoli, chickpeas, corn and apples with white balsamic dressing. I love Minigrow because they have so many options, including a variety of noodles, rice, greens. So I don’t ever get sick of it. They also use our new Perks feature, so I’m working my way towards my next reward each time I order.

Meatball Parm at Zesty Pizzeria

Every New Yorker has to have their go-to pizza place, and I’m lucky that mine is a block away. Zesty has been a go-to throughout my time on the Upper East Side. And I’ve definitely enjoyed the meatball parm sandwich a few times over the last five years. I scheduled my pick-up time to align perfectly with the end of my workout. Because who doesn’t need some well-earned carbs and protein after a workout?

Tune in next week for the latest edition of “What I Ate in a Week.” Will it make you hungry? Probably...but, we can help with that.
